The Lighting of the Candles: An Spiorad Naomh ~ The Holy Spirit

I composed An Spiorad Naomh (The Holy Spirit) in 2013, in our family home, Tí Regan, in Salthill, Galway after a lovely quiet tune with great friend and flute player Enda Mannion.  It was composed for the Confirmation Ceremony, and played publicly for the first time in Cill Rónáin church in 2013, where the children of Scoil Éoin Pol II and Scoil Rónáin, Inis Mór, Árainn were making their Confirmation.

Baiste

This is a tune that I wrote prior to the Baptism of our son Rónán Óg in 2018. It was first played publicly by Irene Guckian, Jim Connolly, Rónán’s maternal Granddad Billy Popplewell and Rónán’s cousins Donal, Seosamh and Máire Geraghty and I for his Baptism in St. Mary’s Church Gorletteragh. The musical priest Fr. John Quinn, carried out a beautiful simple baptism ceremony and a lovely celebration was had by all.

Communion: Ár gCéad Chomaoineach (Piece), A Jig for Julie / Tuin na Sionnaine / The Tar Road to Kilafrasóg (Jigs)

Ár gCéad Chomaoineach (Piece, 2010) was written for 2nd Class who were making their Communion that year. A Jig for Julie was written for Julie in 2009 and Tuin na Sionnaine (The Voice or the Tone of the River Shannon) was written a few months later; the final tune in the set of jigs, was written around 2002 for the Mannion family of Brackloon, Co. Galway and named after an entertaining story told by Nollaig Mannion.
