Phil Meehan

Phil Meehan is a poet and Irish dancer. He exposed Maldon to traditional Irish music and dance. The following poem is from his self published collection of poems entitled "Dance Lessons".

The Dance Teacher

Mother of my two left feet
Call out from the heart
And put us in our places

Weave the hay and lead
Us in a Bridgit’s Cross
That mysterious Celtic Knot

You are the center of a three hand reel
Arms raised to high heaven
A bouquet of lilacs in April

And we are your vase
O great glorious woman
Queen Mebh, Kwan Ying.

The Bloom of Youth, the Dancers Delight
Are tunes we’ve all walked through
Still the dance mad fool

Wants more and more
Choreograph your silence
Keep us forever in your school.
